The first came in 1986, when he drove the #48 J.H. Heafner, Inc Pontiac at the race at Road Atlanta. He started the race in last place, (30th) and it didn't improve much. He was 29th after an oil leak sidelined him on lap two.
The latter came in 1987, and it wasn't much better. He started the race at Road Atlanta in twenty-eighth this time around and would finish there. An axle brought about the result.
