The first one came in 1997, when he drove the #5 Better Built Ford solidly into the field. He started the event at Colorado in 15th position, but fell out due to an engine failure seventy-five laps in. He finished that race 27th.
Higgs then returned in 2003, piloting a personally-owned vehicle into the field at Mesa Marin. He started the race in 26th and this time was able to finish the race. Despite being fifty-six laps down, Higgs managed 32nd position.
