Bobby Cameron of Buffalo, New York won the 1949 New York NASCAR 50 lap Championship race held in Vernon, New York on October 30, 1949. He was Killed at Lancaster Speedway in Lancaster, New York on June 4th, 1960 doing warm up laps for the not yet NASCAR sanctioned track, the Lancaster Track had only been open one year at that time, someone accidently allowed a car on the track from the pits just as the whole field was coming around the 4th turn with Cameron leading of course. The other car hit Cameron on the right rear causing him to flip and go into a sideways roll and with a full tank of fuel his car burst into flames in front of a crowd of more than 4,000 people. He was pronounced dead at the scene after the huge fireball was extinguished.
