Benny Kerley is a former NASCAR driver from Hiddenite, NC. He competed in ten Nationwide Series events in his career, earning one top-ten.
Kerley's debut came in the 1982, when he competed in both series races at Lowe's Motor Speedway. His debut was very much a failure, as Kerley didn't even complete a single lap before issues left him in 38th. Luckily, though, Kerley rebounded in the fall race at the track, starting 27th and driving his way to a respectable 27th place finish.
Kerley competed in two more events during the 1983, starting the year back off at Charlotte. More struggles there cost him significantly, dumping him to 33rd. Kerley then decided to try his hand at Darlington in the September race, but crashed there and finished 36th.
Kerley's busiest year would wind up being in 1984, when the driver finished a career-high 49th in the points following four appearances. The year started off quite rough again for the driver. A number of mechanical woes took him out of his first three starts that year, leaving Kerley 23rd at Darlington, 25th at Charlotte, and 29th at Bristol. Yet Kerley finally found some redemption at Darlington in the September race, completing all but three laps to record his career best finish - a sixth place showing.
Kerley, though, scaled it down to a one-race effort for the 1985 season. He only competed at Rockingham's autumn date, finishing a respectable 23rd despite some late engine issues.
Kerley's final career start came during the 1986 season, when he made his final laps around Darlington. It was a solid end for a driver who had had a rough career, completing all but thirteen laps in the event to finish in 17th.
