Practice Notes Edit

Qualifying Edit

David Reutimann won his second pole of the season, qualifying the #17 Toyota Tundra Toyota past the truck of Mike Bliss. Ryan Moore and Robert Richardson were the only trucks to miss the show. Two drivers would start at the tail of the field on the start: Marcos Ambrose and Steve Park, both for making adjustments at an impound race after qualifying.

Race AnalysisEdit

Reutimann led the first fourteen laps before Bobby Hamilton Jr. took the lead. The first caution came out for the wreck of Scott Lagasse Jr. coming off turn two. Seventeen of the thirty-five cars left on the track pitted for tires, allowing Hamilton Jr. to maintain his lead during the caution. Boston Reid was the lucky dog on that caution.

However, on the restart Kyle Busch powered by Hamilton Jr. and began to put a dominating pace on the field. Mike Bliss stayed in close quarters with Busch, but could not pull the lead away before a debris caution on lap 64. Kyle Krisiloff was the lucky dog as everyone on the lead lap pitted.

Mark Martin took the lead from Busch a couple laps after the restart. Bliss was able to lead one lap at the halfway point, as he Martin and Busch battled through lap traffic and caution came on the speedway. The cause of that caution was a spin by Kraig Kinser at Turn Three.

Martin took the lead back through pit stops, but Kyle Busch took advantage of Martin on the restart and began pulling away from the field. Martin, however, let the run go on and he began to catch Busch in. Martin passed Busch on lap 136. Laps later, while running third, Kyle Busch had a hoodpin fall off the truck, and was black flagged. He lost a lap on the pit stop, but would gain it back because of the next caution, which occured on lap 164, when Kelly Sutton wrecked on the frontstretch. During this run, Carl Edwards, driving a third Roush Racing truck, appears to be the fastest on the track, as he moves to third from seventeenth on the restart.

Reutimann, trying to get back in the race on the pit stops, took no tires. Mark Martin passed him on the restart and was not challenged afterwards. Busch recovered to tenth, while Edwards had problems on pit road and finished second, despite an amazing recovery.

Worth NotingEdit

  • Bill Lester was also penalized for a loose hoodpin early in the race. He finished 30th.
  • Joey Miller had a tire go down early in the event. He lost multiple laps as a result, and never recovered. He finished 32nd.
  • Mike Skinner lost two laps after he had a flat tire. He would finish 22nd.
