The 1996 Busch Light 300 was a Busch Series event held at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 9, 1996. Terry Labonte won his first win of the year, holding off David Green. Green now held a 63-point championship lead on Mark Martin, who finished seventh.


Dick Trickle claimed his first series pole in a little less than six years, turning in a blistering speed of 177.544 mph. Trickle would lead five laps before finishing 13th. David Green was the outside pole sitter, points leader Mark Martin lined up in third, and eventual race winner Terry Labonte showed 11th following time trials.

Sixty-one cars showed up for forty-three slots in the field. The following eighteen drivers did not qualify for the event:

¹ - After failing to qualify for the race, Fuller and ST Motorsports bought out Michael Ritch's #02 ECU car for the event. Fuller started the race in place of Ritch, got the credit point wise and turned it over to Ritch at some point during the race. Ritch would crash the car near the halfway point.
