The 1988 Miller High Life 500 was a Winston Cup (now Nextel Cup) event that occured at Pocono on June 19, 1988. Geoffery Bodine claimed the win, while Michael Waltrip claimed his career best finish, which would hold up into 2001 with a second place finish. Points leader Rusty Wallace extended his lead with a third-place finish. However, the race would be best known for a scary crash that ended the career of legend Bobby Allison. On the first lap, Allison went airborne, tumbled and finished 39th. He had massive brain injuries which ended his career. He left the event eighth in points. Stats
